Wednesday 14th November.
Dr.  Leslie is now unable to come on 14th November and his talk has been postponed until  October 2019.
Instead Prof Joe Cann will give a talk entitled “Exploring a newly-formed mid-ocean ridge in the Equatorial Pacific –Â challenges and some answers.” Â This meeting will be at the Braithwaite Institute on the A66 at Braithwaite.
Prof. Cann was on a scientific expedition in April/May this year exploring the Pacific Ocean floor and this will be the first presentation of the science from that expedition.
Sylvia has put together background reading in preparation for her event. It is recommended to bring your own copies of what you need as there will be few, if any available on the day.

Birkhams Quarry, St. Bees Head and Beach Cliffs
Susan Beele
Start: 10:30
Location: St. Bees
Description:
Meet in Sandwith village NX 965145 at 10.15 to car share. Proceed (10 cars max) on private road to quarry and guided tour by manager Steve Boam (10.30-12.00). Hard hats are required and hi-vis is recommended, with footwear appropriate to the weather conditions (if wet, wellingtons may be the best). Following the visit we will drive to St Bees beach. The left hand car park is cheaper, £2.70 for 4 hours. We will meet briefly at the north end of the Promenade by the ‘Wainwright Wall’, then walk across the footbridge over the small Rottington Beck to have lunch on the wave cut platform of St Bees Sandstone at NX 958118. The afternoon will involve a 3 km walk, along the shingle and sand beach to Pow Beck, returning on the footpath along the top of the moraine ridge.
The Spireslack visit on 25th August has been cancelled due to insufficient numbers and closure of the local access road (A70).
