Abstract: In a world as stunningly beautiful and as complex as the one we have the joy to inhabit, why are most of the tools used to understand environmental processes like glaciation, coastal dynamics, the management of contaminated land or the reasons why peatlands are so important so terrible at acknowledging that complexity? In this talk, Professor Simon Carr, a Geographer based at the University of Cumbria in Ambleside introduces the ways in which innovative 3D imaging of soils and sediments is bringing new ways of understanding the glorious 4D wonder that is our Earth system.
