The Dent Fault — forming the geological boundary between Westmorland and Yorkshire — was mapped out by Adam Sedgwick in the 1820s,
one of the first regional-scale faults to be defined in the UK. In this talk, we look at the life of Adam Sedgwick, and we compare his views on Dent Fault geometry and mechanics with more recent research on the fault zone.
