 ity\n\nSedimentary geology has\, like many areas of geology\, traditionall
 y been mostly an observational science. However\, this is slowly changing.
  Using more quantitative methods\, we can improve our understanding of how
  sediments accumulate and what individual beds may show of deep time envir
 onmental changes. For example this approach means we can better understand
  any patterns in the layers and if so what they are recording\, such as po
