DESCRIPTION:Portinscale Village Hall\n\nby Christine Arkwright\n\nThe Lake 
 District is rich in natural resources\, particularly minerals\, which have
  been exploited over many years.\n\nThese include primary or rock-forming 
 minerals which crystallise directly from molten magma and secondary minera
 ls\, formed by hydrothermal\, igneous and metamorphic processes.\n\nThis w
 orkshop will include a visual presentation about how minerals are formed f
 ollowed by practical exercises to identify mineral samples from their diff
 erent physical properties. There will also be a display of rocks and miner
 al specimens to browse and a polarising microscope to view rock thin secti
 ons.\n\nBring your own hand lens and grain-size card\, if you have them\,
