 niversity has a special interest in geophysics\, geo-dynamics and tectonic
 s.  He is the Lead Supervisor on a project that combines the study of ig
 neous rocks\, Iceland mantle plume dynamics and linked climate change.  
  The Icelandic mantle plume is the largest upwelling Earth and because of
  its position on the mid Atlantic ridge offers a unique opportunity to stu
 dy the plume through time.   Last summer Prof. White led a research tea
 m to drill boreholes into the ocean crust to further these studies and we
