DETAILS

Wednesday 12th January at 7.30pm on Zoom

Professor Nicky White, Cambridge University

Professor Nicky White, Cambridge University has a special interest in geophysics, geo-dynamics and tectonics.  He is the Lead Supervisor on a project that combines the study of igneous rocks, Iceland mantle plume dynamics and linked climate change.   The Icelandic mantle plume is the largest upwelling Earth and because of its position on the mid Atlantic ridge offers a unique opportunity to study the plume through time.   Last summer Prof. White led a research team to drill boreholes into the ocean crust to further these studies and we hope to hear more about this in the lecture.
